Bikeability
In February, Year 5 pupils were given the opportunity of a 2 day Bikeability course by trainers from West Berkshire Council. The course is designed to build confidence and to teach children how to ride their bicycles safely on busy roads. The children were organised into groups of 6 pupils per trainer and received instruction on the playground on the morning of their first day. For the remainder of the course, the trainers took the children out and about around the Hungerford area to give them experience of cycling on the road. The children received an assessment report and a badge at the end of the course.
At the end of April, Caroline Lane, Cycling Coordiantor, West Berkshire Council, came to work with the Foundation children over a four-week period to use balance bikes. The children thoroughly enjoyed riding the bikes on the playground and learning to keep their balance on the move!
We look forward to further Bikeability training courses, hopefully with other year groups, when available to promote healthy exercise and safe cycling for all the children.
