What we Fund

The Friends of Hungerford Primary School raises funds to enhance and benefit the children’s learning and aid teaching in various ways. Our aim is to promote the health and well-being of all the children at Hungerford Primary School.

We raise funds through local sponsorship, grant applications, fundraising activities (such as the Reading Challenge and our upcoming Obstacle Challenge) and events (such as the popular School Disco, the Jumble Sale and our Summer Fete). Click here for a full list of our upcoming events.

We set aside funding for year groups. Teaching staff in each year group decide what they need, and apply for funding up to £500 per year group, for example trips, equipment or books. Subject co-ordinators can also apply for funding at any time, subject to money being available.

School can also ask us to support one-off costs for other resources. We are sometimes asked to help with particular projects to meet a demand. For example, the 2019 obstacle challenge raised money to make improvements to the playground. If we have enough notice of a particular project, we look to apply for suitable grants.

We’re delighted to report that, despite a very strange end to the year, in 2019/2020 we still raised significant funds for our school, which has been spent on supporting our children’s learning and development:

  • Y4 new dictionaries £394
  • Y4 travel for Newbury museum trip £149
  • Y2 reading books £521
  • Y6 activities £500
  • Part funding of new marquee - £500

Plus, following successful funding applications:

  • Litter picking equipment, WBC - 10 kits worth £300 & National Lottery £200
  • Robots, Co-op, over £300 raised so far
  • New sound equipment for the school hall, Hungerford Town Council, £500

Our twice yearly ‘Make a Difference’ days continue to be very popular, giving parents (and children of course!) the opportunity to contribute their time and skills to spruce up the outdoor areas.

This coming year we continue with supporting the school’s ambition to develop the outside areas, rejuvenating equipment that is there and introducing some new editions. We would welcome any ideas you may have about how we can improve the outside environment and equipment and, of course, would be grateful of any offers of individual and company support either through monetary donations or help with equipment, skills or time!
